While stormy skies weep This is the Wreck of the Peter Iredale near Astoria, Oregon. Many ships and crew were lost trying to go in or out of the Columbia River at Astoria, the Peter Iredale being one of them. Here is a photo of the Peter Iredale from Wikipedia taken some time around 1900.

Peter Iredale was a four-masted steel barque that ran ashore October 25, 1906, on the Oregon coast en route to the Columbia River.

The image is from the November 2023 Julia Anna Gosporadou workshop on the Oregon Coast. It was a 2 second exposure under rainy and stormy conditions. The 2 second exposure allowed for seeing the motion of the waves.

Urbane IIt's Complicated The title of this image is Urbane I. It is part of my Urbane Series of images of urban areas. 

The caption is “It’s Complicated”, which is due to the complicated inter-relationships between the different architectural styles densely juxtaposed against one another in this image. That’s intentional and is what I’m trying to express.

It’s downtown New York, taken from the Manhattan end of the Brooklyn Bridge. It was last summer, the day before the smoke set in from wildfires.

I would have preferred a long exposure but there wasn’t a place to set up a tripod because of the number of people on the bridge. It would have created a traffic jam.

Mosque ISheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi The Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi covers about 30 acres. This image includes only a small part of the complex. In 2011 I had the opportunity to visit the Mosque. It had been completed in 2007. The sunlight in Abu Dhabi in the winter when this photo was taken can be intense. The image was intended to express the intense light through the light/dark contrast on the domes.

This is the interesting and graceful pedestrian bridge over Interstate 25 near lower downtown Denver. It was a clear blue sky so it was going to be a high contrast image, unlike some others I've posted lately. 

The structure has always interested me. It just took several trips back to find a vantage point that appealed to me.

Seal Rock

Seal Rock is on the southern Oregon coast. It's called Seal Rock for obvious reasons. Following the November workshop on the upper and middle Oregon Coast I continued South down the coast. The weather cooperated and the morning when I was at Seal Rock was outstanding.

The exposure was a little over 5 minutes, producing pleasant cloud movement and a calm, serene sea.

This image was made at Secret Beach on the lower Oregon coast. It was early November 2023 and during the first hours of good weather after days of storms. The sea was still rough from the storms. This was a long exposure of about 6.5 minutes to create a serene and tranquil scene.

Secret Beach is on Google Maps, so not so secret anymore. The trailhead to the sea is hard to find, even with Google Maps, and the trail down to the sea was treacherous due to slick mud after the rains.

The image is one of a coming series taken on the Oregon coast. While I was there it was stormy and rainy much of time. That made for some interesting photo opportunities. In this one I was trying to capture the sense of serenity, even in stormy weather as the sea recedes from a rainy coastline. 

This was a 5 second exposure, which was long enough for a sense of movement resulting from the water receding from the seashore. The odd shaped rocks protruding from the sea are a distinctive feature of the Oregon coast.

Colorado Lawyer Dec 2023Denver Art Museum Cover Photo

I was pleased to have one of my Denver Art Museum photos published on the cover of the December 2023 issue of the Colorado Lawyer, a monthly publication of the Colorado Bar Association. Each month an image made by a lawyer member of the Colorado Bar Association is selected to be published on the cover of the magazine. The only requirement is that it be a subject in Colorado.

This is one of the earlier images of mine in my ongoing series of images focusing on the Denver Art Museum, one of my favorite subjects.
